- What is a tailor made holiday?
As the name suggests, our holidays are made to measure for you. You tell us where you want to go, and when, and we'll work out a unique itinerary personalised to your needs.
This means that there are no fixed departure dates, no set itineraries and no danger of cancellation due to lack of numbers. You can go where you want, when you want - all we ask is that you include at least one rail journey and at least two nights in hotels that we book for you.
- Will it cost a lot more than a group holiday?
Not necessarily. It's true that individual travellers don't have access to the excellent group fares and hotel rates which make Great Rail Journeys and Treyn Holidays such great value for money. However, as we do not plan our tours up to a year in advance, we are also able to take advantage of limited-availability offers and advantageous dates for hotel bookings.

- Why would I book a tailor-made holiday instead of a group tour?
There might be any number of reasons why a tailor-made holiday might be ideal for you. Although a Great Rail Journeys or Treyn Holidays tour is a sociable experience, many people prefer to enjoy their own company, to immerse themselves in foreign cultures more fully and practice language skills for instance.
Others prefer to leave their itinerary more open-ended and not have the days' activities planned out in advance, or prefer to leave themselves free to seek out a local restaurant in the evening instead of having a pre-planned meal.
Still others simply cannot find exactly what they are looking for in the brochure - maybe the dates don't quite fit, or they wish to visit somewhere a little more off-the-beaten-track.
- Why would I book a tailor-made holiday instead of cutting out the middleman and making all the arrangements myself?
Three very good reasons.
Firstly, it's not easy. Even for the most seasoned traveller, keeping on top of timetable changes, routings and the like isn't easy, and there is no one central booking system like that which exists for flights. Because we are specialists in rail travel, we have these resources at our fingertips, so why not ask the experts to do the hard work for you?
Secondly, we offer the support while you're away. If a freak snowstorm closes the Channel Tunnel or a volcanic ash cloud grounds flights, we're just at the end of the phone, liaising with our suppliers and trying to make alternative arrangements for you.
Finally, booking a holiday through a company that consists of both accommodation and transport means it counts as a Package Holiday under European law. This gives you a level of legal protection and right of redress you would not get with a collection of individual arrangements booked separately.
