Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and arriving by train has its own inescapable charm as you glide across the causeway spanning the glittering lagoon.

The overnight train from Paris is a great way to maximise your time - enjoy a meal and a bottle of wine in the restaurant car, then sleep the miles away, arriving refreshed with a whole day in front of you. On the return journey, you have nearly the whole of your departure day free as well before boarding the train, giving you two extra days.

Artesia, who operate the sleeper services from Paris to Italy, are coming to the end of their franchise contract in December and Veolia will take over running of this train in conjunction with Trenitalia. Artesia have withdrawn the sleeper compartments from these trains, operating with only shared couchette compartments until their contract ends.

As a result, we do not recommend using these sleeper trains until the new operators have taken over and we have been able to assess the new service.
