The US Great Crossing

The California Zephyr is one of the US's most famous trains, launched in 1949 with its glamourous "Zephyrette" hostesses attending to the customers' every need. In the modern age of air travel, the Zephyr has survived, travelling daily from Chicago to Emeryville, just outside San Francisco, through some of the most spectacular scenery the US has to offer.

Through the Great Plains to Denver and the Rocky Mountains, across Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah and the Donner Pass in the Sierra Nevada, from the casinos and deserts of Reno, Nevada, to the lush Central Valley of California, the California Zephyr takes in the huge variety of landscapes and places that make the US what it is.
