The Rhine Gorge

The traditional northern end of the Rhine Gorge route is at Cologne, although the truly spectacular scenery begins after Koblenz, where the river Mosel flows into the Rhine. Passenger expresses usually hug the western bank of tthe Rhine, affording great views across the river, especially when passing the famous Lorelei Rock, one of the most dangerous points in the river for much of its history. Winding through the German landscape, the Rhine Gorge's landscapes of castles, vineyards and pretty half-timbered towns make a great place to stay a while and enjoy, but even if you are just passing through it's worth making the journey a bit more special by heading this way.
