The Palace on Wheels
One of the world's best-known luxury trains, the Palace on Wheels was originally composed of coaches originally built for the Viceroy of India and some of the wealthier Indian princes such as the Nizam of Hyderabad. Recently, these ageing carriages have been retired and new, purpose-built ones introduced with air-conditioning, improved suspension for a smoother ride and larger cabins. However, the decoration scheme and many of the original fittings were carried over and the new train seamlessly blends the best of the old and the new.
