San Francisco

Flowers in your hair are no longer compulsory, but it's hard to deny that San Francisco has a liberal, relaxed atmosphere unlike any other American city. The hippies of Haight-Ashbury are - mostly - long-gone, but the city is still suffused with an air of tolerance and a slightly slower pace of life. From the cable trollies that ply the city's famous hills to the colourful Chinatown, the images of San Francisco are already well-known. Take a boat trip out from Fisherman's Wharf to Alcatraz Island (entrance fee $26 - ask if you'd like us to book this for you), see the city from across the famous Golden Gate Bridge and drink in the Californian sun while admiring the fascinating mix of Victorian and ultra-modern architecture.
