Ghent

Ghent, like Bruges, was a major centre of the medieval cloth trade and grew into one of the most prosperous cities of Europe and centre for arts and architecture. However, while Bruges slumbered in obscurity for centuries and has become something of a "theme park", Ghent remains a living, breathing city with a strong student population and excellent cuisine alongside the museums, galleries and churches you would expect.
