Belgium and Luxembourg

The crossroads of Northern Europe - and all too often its battlefield - Belgium has for centuries been at the heart of European culture even though the modern state only dates to the 1830s. A complex and fascinating country, Belgium is well worth taking the time to get to know better and dispel those "boring" stereotypes. The tiny Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is likewise well worth a stop, and its handsome capital is possibly one of the most dramatically-situated cities in Europe.

In Depth

Our featured destinations are the most popular cities in Belgium and Luxembourg, but there is plenty more to see and do. Here are some more ideas.

Spa - The southern Belgian city of Spa, nestling in the lovely Ardennes region, is the original spa resort from which all others take their name.

Liège - The city of Liège, on the route between Brussels and Germany, is a handsome French-influenced city in its own right and a gateway to explore the Ardennes.

Ypres - The name of Ypres is synonymous with the Great War, and there are many reminders in the town itself and the surrounding area of those dark days.
